Fees and Engagement

How are professional fees determined?

Professional fees are agreed in writing before work begins. The fee depends on the nature of the matter, the forum in which it is to be conducted and the work involved.

When are professional fees payable?

Fees are payable in advance, on the terms recorded in the written fee arrangement.

Are fees paid in advance refundable?

No. Fees paid in advance are non-refundable. This should be understood before any fee is paid.

Can a single fee be agreed for multiple or connected matters?

Yes. Where several proceedings arise out of the same dispute, a single consolidated (package) fee covering all of them may be agreed. A matrimonial dispute, for example, often involves a divorce petition under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, maintenance under Section 144 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (formerly Section 125 CrPC), proceedings under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, a cruelty case under Sections 85 and 86 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (formerly Section 498A IPC), custody or guardianship proceedings, and bail. These connected matters may be clubbed together under one package fee. The terms are recorded in writing before work begins.

When does an advocate–client relationship arise?

An advocate–client relationship arises only once the firm has agreed to act and the fee terms have been settled. Contacting the office, whether in person, by telephone, by WhatsApp or through the website, does not create such a relationship.

What are the office hours and where is the office?

The office is open from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and on Sunday by appointment only. It is located at 536-C, Sector 6, MDC, Panchkula, Haryana 134109.

Are communications with an advocate confidential?

Yes. Communications between a client and an advocate made in the course of professional engagement are protected under Section 132 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (formerly Section 126 of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872).

Should confidential details be sent through the website form or WhatsApp?
